The second KMC1600S in the machine pool

The Hagedorn Group has reached another milestone: the second KMC1600S - Germany's largest demolition excavator - is now in use at the power plant construction site in Ibbenbüren. This not only expands the fleet, but also the company's capabilities.

Transporting the KMC1600S was a real logistical challenge. The machine monster, which weighs over 230 tonnes, had to be disassembled into six parts in order to be transported safely to its destination on a total of six flat-bed trailers. The 1,300-kilometre route took the base unit from Geisingen to Ibbenbüren in three nights. The transport was carried out using a powerful Scania 730S, which brought the 83-tonne load safely to its destination. The extraordinary performance of drivers Michael Höer and Giuseppe Linnenschmidt, who mastered the transport with the utmost precision and dedication, deserves a special mention. Equally impressive was the transport of the counterweight, which, at 42 tonnes, took one and a half nights to complete, and the 32-metre-long arm, which was supplied by the subsidiary WASEL. The complete delivery and subsequent assembly of the KMC1600S were completed in just one day thanks to precise millimetre work and close coordination.

Extensive approvals are required for such complex transport operations. In this case, it took between four and eight weeks to obtain all the necessary transport permits. The time frame varies depending on the weight, width, height and distance, for example.

The KMC1600S is impressive not only in terms of its dimensions, but also in terms of its technical performance. With 771 horsepower and a hydraulic output of 1,000 litres per minute at up to 370 bar, the excavator is a real powerhouse. Its tear-out force of up to 324 kN and the 60-metre Tele-High-Reach boom make it the perfect machine for demanding demolition work, such as that required on the construction site in Ibbenbüren. The 1,700-litre (448-gallon) hydraulic system and the enormous 23.15-litre (6.1-gallon) cubic capacity guarantee maximum efficiency and performance.

The KMC1600S is not only an impressive example of modern technology, but also a further step into the future that will help the company achieve even more ambitious goals.
